Long Island Police Spread Holiday Cheer To Over 700 Kids

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (WCBS 880) – Two weeks ago, someone stole all of the Christmas gifts that Dawn Santos had bought for her four children.

Santos didn't know what do to, but thanks to the police and commissioner's office in Nassau County, her children got another chance to open some gifts.

The police department and commissioner's office held a holiday celebration and provided gifts to over 700 Long Island children.

"This is the best of the best. The children get to eat, have fun. They see characters and Santa and get to have free toys," Santos said.

Children enjoyed cotton candy, hot dogs, chocolates, and more, and 7-year-old Amaya got a cookie maker.

"I told Santa that I wanted this," Amaya said as she sat on Santa's lap.
