Cops: LI Man Arrested After Returning To Accident Site

WOODBURY, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a man who left the scene of a Long Island traffic accident where a woman was run over twice has been arrested after going back there.

Nassau County police say 21-year-old man Paul J. Reiners, of Syosset, was driving a 2002 Ford Mustang in Woodbury around 6 p.m. Wednesday when he struck the woman as she was crossing Jericho Turnpike. The woman then was run over by another vehicle.

Police say Reiners left the scene without identifying himself but returned in his car about 90 minutes later and was arrested. They haven’t said why he returned or how he was identified.

Reiners is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious physical injury. He’ll be arraigned Thursday in Hempstead.

The 24-year-old woman who was run over suffered serious head trauma and has been hospitalized.

As unglez stated, Are you guys insane!!! Besides him,VC’s, and Disgusted’s blog, It truly amazes me of the stupidity of the rest of the statements regarding this story. SBR states that if another car hit her as well then she probably was doing something risky. Was she drinking or otherwise impaired? Just saying.SBR; The fact is, he hit her and LEFT while she lay there, batted and broken in the middle of the road to be run over again. He states,The driver was not charged with any other infractions. He’s a kid, he got spooked and left. The fact that he went back speaks volumes to his credit,as well as CJ’s,”He should get credit for returning. He probably panicked when it initially happened. It happens.
He went back to the scene 1 1/2 hours after the incident and was spotted while he watched. (by the way,Good Samaritan,if he didn’t realized he hit her, why would he come back?)
Well, now this 24 yr old “KID” is in ICU, they dont know if she is going to make it. Pray for her and her family, its just a shame, such a sad shame

Are you guys insane!!! Ham is the only one with moral values thinking of the injured and not of the arrested as the rest of you are doing. IT DOES NOT JUST HAPPEN, where do you get off saying its ok to run someone over, get panicked and flee the scene instead of doing what any normal person would’ve done, which is STOP, get out the car, and check on the person you just struck with your car, doing God knows what MPH! Had he done that instead of fleeing, the chance of the second car running her over would have been slim to none. And he is not just a kid, he’s a 21 yr old man for christ sakes. If he’s such a kid then he should not be behind the wheel, speeding of all things!

Seems to me that crossing Jericho is not a good idea, and if another car hit her as well then she probably was doing something risky. Was she drinking or otherwise impaired? Just saying. Also the driver was not charged with any other infractions. He’s a kid, he got spooked and left. The fact that he went back speaks volumes to his credit.

I think that health care reform is a great idea. I have type 1 diabetes and for me to get insurance, it was a nightmare until I found “Wise Health Insurance” search for them online and you can get affordable health insurance instantly.

    Why is he being arrested?

uhh…leaving the scene of an accident.

If he stopped maybe the second car wouldn’t have hit her. It’s common decency which he lacked.

      1. The Good Samaritan says:

maybe he didnt realize he hit her

        The Good Samarian has spoken

For hit and run Sammy Girl.
Leaving the scene of an accident is the only criminal charge that exists for motorvehicle infractions. You get into an accident and leave you go to jail.
