New Conn. Governor Endorses Higher Ed Commissioner
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Connecticut Gov.-elect Dan Malloy says he's asking a state board to reappoint the current higher education commissioner.
Michael Meotti has been commissioner since 2008, and Malloy said on Monday he will ask the state Board of Governors of Higher Education to reappoint Meotti in the role.
Meotti says he would be honored to work with Malloy's administration. He says they share similar interests in making higher education affordable and accessible.
Meotti is an ex-officio member of the state Board of Education, is a past president of the United Way of Connecticut and was a state senator for eight years.
The board meets Jan. 19, but it couldn't be determined Monday whether Meotti's reappointment would be on the agenda.
