NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) – An 8-year-old boy was killed and four other people have been injured in a fire at a Brooklyn apartment Wednesday morning.

1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa reports

Fire officials said the blaze began in the back of the first floor apartment just before 6 a.m. on East 57th Street. There were no smoke alarms and officials said the outer and inner doors were double locked.

The cause of the fire, which was brought under control at 6:29 a.m., was not immediately known.

The boy lived with his sister, uncle and grandmother in an apartment at 2051 East 57th Street. The boy’s uncle said he couldn’t sleep Wednesday morning so he went out for a walk and when he returned the house was on fire.

They got it wrong, the facts have been reported wrong all day. I live in this co-op. The uncle had a daily habit of going out jogging, he didn’t just go out for a walk. The cause is still being investigated.

Uncle went out for a walk only to find the place on fire when he got back? I smell arson…

I was thinking the same thing. The uncle went for a walk at 5 am in New York’s frigid weather? ARSON!!!!!!

I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW LONG IT TOOK FIRE FIGHTERS TO GET THERE, SEE THEY DIDN’T MENTION THAT. MAY GOD GIVE THIS FAMILY STRENGTH AT A TIME LIKE THIS.

E323 is the 1st Due engine company there, and it took them 3 minutes to get to the scene, a normal response time. Get your facts straight before you put the blame on the fire department’s response times. I drove down that street last night, and the DSNY’s plow job was driveable – but poor to say the least.

now if only roads were cleared of snow the response time would have been quicker .. thx a lot mayor
