8-Year-Old Boy Killed In Brooklyn Blaze, 4 Others Hurt

NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) — An 8-year-old boy was killed and four other people have been injured in a fire at a Brooklyn apartment Wednesday morning.

1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa reports

Fire officials said the blaze began in the back of the first floor apartment just before 6 a.m. on East 57th Street. There were no smoke alarms and officials said the outer and inner doors were double locked.

The cause of the fire, which was brought under control at 6:29 a.m., was not immediately known.

The boy lived with his sister, uncle and grandmother in an apartment at 2051 East 57th Street. The boy’s uncle said he couldn’t sleep Wednesday morning so he went out for a walk and when he returned the house was on fire.
