Police: NY Woman Gave Rum To Snow-Shoveling Teens
WHITE PLAINS, NY (WCBS 880/AP) - A couple of bucks is the usual reward for teenagers who shovel snow but one local woman’s reward has gotten her in a load of trouble.
WCBS 880’s Catherine Cioffi reports
White Plains police arrested Silvia DeLeon, 41, Tuesday evening after she allegedly paid two teens with two bottles of rum for digging her car out of the snow .
Police commissioner David Chong says Deleon shared a bottle of rum with the 17-year-old and 18-year-old boys after they shoveled her driveway. The boys then offered to dig her car out. Chong says she drove them to a liquor store and bought another rum bottle, which they consumed together.
“My suggestion is it’s much better to just tip these boys,” Chong told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.
The party ended when one of the teens’ mothers found the three of them drunk.
Chong says, “This woman should have known better than to be plying them with alcohol.”
DeLeon has been charged with unlawfully dealing with a minor. It wasn’t clear if Deleon had an attorney. There’s no phone listing for a Silvia Deleon.
