NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — If you drink and need to ditch your car this New Year’s Eve and you happen to be celebrating in the Lower Hudson Valley, you may get a free ride.
T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home in North Rockland is offering free rides to revelers between midnight and 4 a.m. Saturday morning.
General Manager of T.J. McGowan Sons, Don Cranston spoke with WCBS 880’s Catherine Cioffi Thursday about the program.
WCBS 880 Catherine Cioffi gets details on the unusual service.
“We’re going to give people a ride in our funeral home vehicles — not the hearse obviously,” Cranston said chuckling.
Their slogan was “let us drive you now, instead of later.”
“If I can save one person or one DWI arrest, it’s a great success this year,” Cranston said.
Aside from a safe ride home, Cranston said the funeral home will also be giving out bagels and water to start the New Year out right.
Anhauser-Busch Wholesaler Dana Distributors is also picking up the tab for cabs home from bars and restaurants in Orange, Sullivan and Rockland Counties.
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano warns police will be stepping up their patrols in an effort to catch drunk drivers.
Mangano says you can avoid all that trouble and stay safe by getting a free cab ride offered by many cab companies. Call 516-326-9090 and a cab will take you home for free.
