Police Investigate Mysterious Death Of Westchester Mom

MAMARONECK, N.Y. (CBS 2) -- Police in Westchester County are looking into the death of a Mamaroneck woman, whose body was discovered late Thursday night.

The investigation began with a phone call to Mamaroneck police, asking them to check on 49-year-old Jennifer Katz at her home on Baldwin Place.

Katz lived with her two daughters in a home now cordoned off and guarded by police. Neighbors said the woman's daughters left more than a week ago to be with their father, who lives in North Carolina.

CBS 2 has learned that police have identified a person of interest in the case.  That individual is believed to be a man, who was doing work around the house for the victim.

Neighbors – including Judy Solomon -- who spoke to CBS 2's Dave Carlin said no one had seen the woman for days.

Solomon described Katz as "very friendly" and "helpful" and said the entire situation was "scary" because "we don't know what the details are."

Police will not say how Katz was murdered, but have ruled out a suicide, Carlin reported.

For now, Investigators will spend their New Year's Eve trying to unravel the woman's mysterious death and hoping someone comes forward with information.
