Westchester Hires Bkg Search Consultants To Find New Principal

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) – After the Pleasantville School District discovered that the man they hired to begin as the high school's new principal was accused of misusing $90,000 in student funds at his last job in the Bronx , the school district decided to step up its efforts when it comes to hiring.

Now, the district is using an independent background search consultant and a citizens committee to sift through new applications for the school's principal position.

"That came as a shock. It made our residents unhappy because it certainly didn't look good so yeah we're going to have to go to a private agency that may have a few more options on doing these investigations," Julie Schwartz said.

The consulting firm doing a back ground check will be part of the process for the first time in the district's history.

Also, Schwartz said for the first time the committee will be involved from the very beginning and be involved until a new principal is hired.

"We're trying to be a perfect as we can possibly be," Schwartz said.

The district hopes to have new principal at the school selected by April.
