NJ Gov. Chris Christie Okays More Charter Schools

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s administration has approved applications for 23 new charter schools including the state’s first independent school for children with autism.

WCBS 880’s Levon Putney reports from Newark

The approvals add about one-third more charter schools to the 73 currently operating in the state.

Last year, six charter school applications were approved.

Christie has made charter schools and school choice centerpieces of his education plans.

Christie made the announcement at the Robert Treat Academy in Newark’s North Ward, one of the state’s most successful charter schools. Its founder, Steve Adubato Sr, was on hand for the governor’s announcement.

Its great that Christie has decided to balance the budget by completely obliterating a system that he himself has opted out of. Why should he care that NJ schools will have skyrocketing class sizes and underfunded districts? He sends his kids to catholic school.

You need some money Christie? Why not start by getting rid of asinine blue laws that keep car dealerships in NJ closed on Sundays and force people to hop outside the state if they want to car shop on the weekend?

And…it would be nice if some of these charter schools (if they are so great) benifitted kids in districts where most of the tax revenue actually comes from…

Wow, making fun of a Governor who is trying to expand education and special needs kids. Way to go POGO the Frown.

I agree. There are too many negative posters like Pogo, DanTe, Good Samaritan etc. They’re just trying to get a rise out of everyone.

Christie is a good guy and is on track to be a decent Governor – at least better than NJ has seen in a while. I think he wants to do the right thing, it’s just a matter of whether he can pull it off.

Let’s all just take a deep breath and see how this guy shakes out.

Good, Mr. Christie. When you’re there, sit down, read a book. Maybe you will learn something. And don’t be stealing any tater tots from the kid’s lunches.

A ha ha, cause he is a fat.

    • Pogo the loser

Always an intelligent comment from a liberal…….
