NFL's Goodell, NFLPA Leader Smith Meet In NY

NEW YORK (AP) -- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and players' union executive director DeMaurice Smith are meeting in New York.

Union spokesman George Atallah said Wednesday's session is "an effort to advance the bargaining,'' rather than a formal negotiating session toward a new labor contract.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to comment.

Goodell said Tuesday at an owners' meeting that "there's not enough communication'' between the sides.

The league and union acknowledged last week that they have not held a large-group bargaining session since November. The collective bargaining agreement expires in early March, and the union expects owners to lock out the players.

About a dozen current players are on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, meeting with lawmakers and congressional staffers.
