NEW YORK (CBS New York) — It has been two years since Rex Ryan took over as head coach of the Jets and he has definitely let his presence be known. Rex has entertained and shocked us with a full catalogue of classic moments during his press conferences. Here is a list of his top 10 quotes during his tenure with the Jets…
#10 January 21, 2009 – “If you take a swipe at one of ours, we’ll take two swipes at one of yours. We’re going to turn the heat up, we’re going to let the fur fly, and let’s see what happens.” – This was Ryan’s first declaration as head coach of the Jets during his press conference.
#9 January 11, 2010 “A number that I think is interesting would be eight, and no, that’s not the amount of touchdown passes that Green Bay gave up against Arizona. That’s the number of touchdown passes we gave up all season as the Jets, and the biggest reason for that is Darrelle Revis.” – Ryan’s thoughts on Woodson getting Defensive Player of the Year over Revis.
#8 January 21, 2009 “First off, with all the cameras I was looking for our new president [Barack Obama] back there. I think we’ll get to meet him in the next couple of years anyway.” – Ryan’s confident speech to kick off his tenure as Jets head coach.
#7 December 27, 2009 “The fact is that we won that game by 14 points. It wasn’t like we squeaked it out by one point or something like that. We played well. Granted, it was the Colts JV team or whatever they want to call it, they still had the Colts uniform on.” – After ending the Colts undefeated season and keeping the Jets playoff hopes alive.
#6 August 11, 2010 “Hey, guys, we don’t have Revis in this building right now.” “Does it matter that Revis is not here? Goddamn, he’s pretty f******* good. He’s pretty good, OK? But you know what guys? It isn’t about one guy, its about leading the league in f******* wins.” – Ryan speaking to his team before training camp on an episode of Hard Knocks.
#5 January 7, 2010 “I wasn’t aware of that…but to me we should be favorites. I mean in the whole tournament. I think we have the best defense; I know we do. I think we have the best rushing attack. I want this football team. If I had a choice to coach any team in this tournament, I would choose this one.” – Ryan’s comments regarding the Jets barely making the playoffs and taking on the Bengals.
#4 December 23, 2009 “We’re going to start with the injury report, obviously. Manning, Clark, Addai, Reggie Wayne, Freeney, Mathis, Brackett — all those guys will not play. Oh, hold up. That was my wish list for Santa Claus.” – Ryan addressing the media before the Jets match up with the then undefeated Colts who were planning on resting their players.
#3 November 29, 2010 “I never realized how similar that I am to Tom Brady, I mean, the obvious physical appearance would be the first thing. The fact that he’s married to a supermodel? Hello? Yeah, I’m also married to a supermodel. I just happened to turn the page of InStyle magazine, page 329, just realized that we are very similar in that way.” – Ryan comparing his wife to Brady’s supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen before the teams met up in New England towards the end of this season.
#2 January 4, 2011 “I don’t know when I’m going to beat him, but I want it to be Saturday night,” “Is it personal? Yes, it’s personal. It’s personal against him (Peyton Manning), Reggie Wayne, all those guys, yeah. (Dwight) Freeney and (Robert) Mathis and those other dudes? Absolutely.” – Ryan trash talks before the Jets took on the Colts during this year’s Wild Card Playoff game.
#1 November 29, 2010 “As much as I respect and admire Bill Belichick, I came here to kick his a**, and that’s the truth.” – Ryan draws the battle lines before the Jets match up with New England at the end of this season.
