Yale Undergraduate Applications Set Record

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- Yale University says a record number of potential undergraduates have applied to become members of the Class of 2015.

The university's Yale College received 27,230 applications this year, a 5 percent increase from last year's total of 25,869.

Jeffrey Brenzel, Yale's dean of undergraduate admissions, says there's been a big increase in the number of underrepresented minority students applying to the university. The number of students applying for financial aid has also jumped, regardless of race, he said.

Yale currently has about 5,250 undergraduates and more than 6,300 graduate and professional students.
