NY Parent Says Holocaust E-Mail To PTA Was Mistake

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City parent says he mistakenly sent out an e-mail about a book questioning the Holocaust to a PTA list instead of another group he belongs to.

The New York Times reports that the Jan. 16 e-mail was sent by Michael Santomauro, whose son is a third grader at P.S. 290 in Manhattan. It said: “You should read this book! It is rocking my world!”

Santomauro told the Times he realized his error after two parents complained. He apologized to them.

He said he intended the e-mail for members of a group that debates whether accounts of the Holocaust are exaggerated.

School Principal Sharon Hill wrote to the school’s parents. She said neither the school or the PTA support Santomauro’s views.

It seems to me that an assertion that is not popular enrages clear thinking people into name calling and corny comments instead of fact finding and education about whatever subject it is.

A Fellow MNS Parent Says in MY Defense:

Let me see if I understand what reporter Fernanda Santos wrote in today’s Times (E-Mail About Book Questioning the Holocaust Shakes School). It seems that web journalist and book editor, Michael Santomauro, inadvertently sent an E-mail to all the names on the PTA mailing list of his son’s school, P.S. 290, asking them that they read a book that he publishes entitled ”Debating the Holocaust”. Although Mr. Santomauro apologized for his mistake, Ms. Santos tells readers that, ”Still the damage was done ”. What damage are we talking about…how can anyone be damaged by being asked to read a book? Ms. Santos then tells us that the school’s principal was in the process of contacting the ADL in order to ” seek further clarity ”. Clarity about what?

Ms. Santos goes on to say that the ADL regional director, Ron Meir described Mr. Santomauro using a term borrowed from the porn industry, as ” a hard core Holocaust denier ”. To her credit Ms. Santos does tell us that Mr. Santomauro insists that he does not deny the holocaust but merely wants to encourage debate on the subject. In closing a parent Melinda Batelli-Scopaz is quoted as follows ” this guy is a moron ”. No mention is made of whether or not Ms. Batelli-Scopaz holds any academic credentials in either psychology or history that would give any credence to her assertion’.

His poor son. He came into this wold an innocent child, and now he will be raised in a home filled with hate. How would this man feel if his son was thrown into a pit in the middle of a field and shot dead, like the nazi’s did to so many children.

Santomauro needs to be ignored. He is obviously desperate for attention and beyond pathetic. He calls himself an editorial director–what a joke. He is a joke himself and ought to find something constructive to do with his life. Devoting his life to question other people’s pain is a useless and sad endeavor. What a classless jerk.

For those parents at the Manhattan New School who are attacking me, virtually all of you have told me that the reason you believe al-Qaeda attacked the United States is because they do not like our freedoms. The terrorizing I have experienced from MNS parents is no different than the mindset in which you believe is the reason al-Qaeda attacked us on 9/11. –Michael Santomauro

I was trying to reply to mezzommoma’s comment. What if there is a time when people deny sepetmber 11 happened. Holocaust survivors went through alot worse!I like to hear people say “every one is intitled to their opinion”.

Google Santamauro, see writings, and you’ll see he does deny the Holocaust. Why is he ashamed to admit it in the Times? It’s on the net for all to see.

  8. killbilly says:

They’re going to have to make laws to keep this from happening! No one should question the Holocaust!

You mean people are complaining because someone suggested they read a book that challenges the conventional perspective of history in an intellectual fashion?! And he did it via a school? Put this main in jail immediately- before you know it, he’ll be running around telling everyone that Columbus wasn’t really the first European to set foot on North American soil or that the geocentric model of the universe is a fraud…

Steven Goldenberg is Michael Santomauro. And if this was a mistake, it’s the third time this guy has made such an error. He did it while his child was at PS 87 and while he was running a roommate-finding business.

Someone needs to take this parent to the Holocaust Museum in Battery Park!

Now now, mezzomomma — everyone is entitled to their opinion…

No matter how imbecilic and ignorant of the facts it may be.

    2. sk says:

sounds like a good suggestion, but people believe what ever they want to believe. They don’t want to see proof because they rather live in denial.
