Yet Another Snowstorm Batters The Tri-State

Flooding Possible Along Coastal Areas Thursday Morning

NEW YORK (CBS New York) — A wintry mix of snow and sleet is causing massive delays, and is making travel tricky across the Tri-State Area.

While the white stuff started coming down during the morning rush on Wednesday, the worst of this latest storm started at night, as much more accumulating snow began to blanket the region.

The National Weather Service issued Winter Storm Warnings until 6 a.m. Thursday, and conditions aren’t expected to improve until after the morning commute.

Snow began falling heavily on parts of the are in the middle of the morning rush hour on Wednesday. Local streets quickly became snow-covered, although the major roadways remained passable.

Intermittent snow, sleet and rain fell most of the day. A second barrage of steadier and heavier snow started late Wednesday evening, and will carry into the early morning hours on Thursday.

“The biggest part of the storm is with us while you’re sleeping,” CBS 2 meteorologist Lonnie Quinn said.

The bulk of the snow will exit overnight, but Thursday morning’s commute will be very messy.

“By the time you get to about 4 a.m., things really taper off in the city,” Quinn said.

The FAA announced Wednesday that the weather was causing significant arrival delays at New York’s La Guardia Airport, as well as Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey.

The National Weather Service said significant snowfall was forecast for the New York metropolitan area. Accumulations of up to 14 inches were forecast for the city, with up to 12 inches in Westchester County and northern New Jersey.

In New Rochelle, minor coastal flooding is possible late Wednesday night. The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday.

There’s still snow on the ground from the 1st storm.

And they wait until after morning rush to suspend street cleaning. Snow falling fast with drivers sliding around fighting for spots while kids walk to school. Idiots.

  • Ellen

OK, I have had it. New York and Boston going to get up to 10 inches, and Miami is enjoying 75 degree weather. God, I knew I should have moved to Florida years ago.

I hope I will still be able to do my grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. It is hard to ride a bike in the snow. I am making organic Thai food tonight and my friends and I are going to smoke pot, drink Pabst, and pass around the guitar why we contemplate just what it is that we are so angry at. I know we will all lambast over the commercial exploitation of certain neighborhoods while failing to recognize that we are the primary culprits for same. Then, my friends will disperse to their respective neighborhoods along the “L” and “G” lines, which neighborhoods, by the way, are the safest in the city.

wat can you do? some winters have no snow at all and now it hasn’t stopped. I hate traveling in the snow and i’m so sick of it but we can’t blame anyboy. If you don’t like snow move to the south. But, don’t go in the summer! the heat is so brutal that its worse than being in snow!

  • casper4444

The snow began at 8am, and not a 3pm as predicted, I guess all of your computer models are not worth much.

  • SuckitupNYC

You people are so lame. Try living upstate or somewhere where people don’t make excuses when it snows. Get over it! You’ve had nothing this winter.

    • Tropical Tilly

Why do you think we DON’T live upstate, Einstein?

      • Joseph Blowinski

Good one ! WHo is stupid enough to want to live upstate anyway?

    • Tropical Tilly

Average snow fall for NY in winter is 22″ over the ENTIRE winter. We had that in one day in December so. yah, people are a little tired of snow at this point, smart a@@.

I get my weather forecasts from a Gypsy Fortune Teller, they are more accurate.

    • Michael H.

Yes, because the forecasts thus far this winter have been so wrong as to be completely unreliable….

read that with a lot of sarcasm

    “English only please.”

Actually the United State has no official language.

Except that when it snows, our precious mayor likes to flee the city. Oh, but like he said, he’s still in charge. LMAO.
