Judge: NJ Man Insane When He Killed Neighbor, 88
MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) -- A man who fatally stabbed his 88-year-old neighbor and wounded two other people at a New Jersey retirement community has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
State Superior Court Judge Max Baker issued his ruling Wednesday following a nonjury trial. He said 66-year-old Linwood resident Anthony Milano would be committed to a psychiatric facility.
Milano was charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and a weapons offense after the October 2009 attacks at the Village at Linwood, about 10 miles south of Atlantic City. He had pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors say Milano attacked Catherine McGowan and her 60-year-old daughter, Diane Nehmad, outside McGowan's apartment. Another resident, 84-year-old Eugene Pepper, was wounded when he tried to intervene.
Residents say Milano acted erratically and feuded with his neighbors.
