Candle Light Vigil Held For Victims Of Fatal Accident

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (CBS 2) – Nearly 40 people attended a candle light vigil in Toms River on Friday night to remember three friends that were killed in a mysterious car accident.

Investigators said 20-year-old Matthew Budesa, 20-year-old Kimberly Van Gorden and 21-year-old Matt Witzgall died early Thursday morning after their Hyundai Accent crashed into Pine Beach Elementary School.

Pine Beach police confirmed that the compact car was traveling at a high rate of speed and the passengers were not wearing seat belts.

All of it remains difficult to handle for friends.

"It's just a complete shock," Donna Riccardi said.

Police will not comment on whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, but one source said drugs, including pills, were found in the Hyundai.

Whatever the case, friends are still distraught by it all.

"All these kids had a lot of love and support, they had a lot of friends, everyone cared for them," Tori Wehringer said.
