Madoff Who? Mets’ Reyes ‘Not Thinking About’ Contract

NEW YORK (WFAN) — The Mets have been mired in controversy since Fred and Jeff Wilpon announced in January that they will try to sell 20-25% of the franchise.

Flushing faithful worry that shortstop Jose Reyes, unsigned after 2011, could be a possible casualty of New York’s financial woes.

Reyes said on Thursday that he’s aware of the chatter, but is only focused on helping the Mets succeed on the field.

“To be honest with you, right now, I’m not thinking about my contract,” Reyes said at Isaac Newton Middle School in Harlem. Reyes was attending a program aimed at scaling back truancy in NYC.

“I’m thinking about helping this team win a lot of ballgames and see what happens,” he added.

The oft-injured spark plug admitted that “the last two years have been kind of tough for me.” Due to various injuries, Reyes has only played 169 games in the past two seasons for New York.

Reyes has tuned out the Mets-Madoff saga, and is only concerned with getting himself back in playing shape.

“Right now I’m concentrating on getting to spring training and getting ready for the season and play baseball,” Reyes said. “I know it’s tough because I think we are a family. But I support them all the way and let’s see what happens. Like I said before, my concern is to play baseball.”

Madoff took so much from so many people it’s not even funny but let’s be honest the Mets arn’t worth a damm. They couldn’t even hit a beach ball if they had to.

what’s there to imagine about. It’s not like Reyes has carried the Mets to Championship after championships. Reyes is just a good player & nothing more. If he was Pujols, A-Rod, Jeter, Howard or a top star pitcher like Halladay or C.C these guys are all superstar Hall of Famers. Reyes, well, what has he done for the Mets lately or at any time, nothing.
