Jets Replace Alosi, Hire New Strength Coach

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Bill Hughan has been hired as the New York Jets' strength and conditioning coach, replacing Sal Alosi.

Alosi resigned in January, less than two months after he was caught on the sideline tripping a Miami player during a punt return and was suspended by the team.

Alosi was initially docked without pay for the rest of the season and fined $25,000 by the team for sticking out his knee to trip Miami's Nolan Carroll during a game at the New Meadowlands Stadium on Dec. 12. He was suspended indefinitely by the team a few days later after acknowledging he ordered players to form a wall along the sideline.

On Jan. 31, he resigned his position with the Jets.

Hughan joins the Jets after three seasons as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Atlanta Falcons. He also held that position with the Oakland Raiders from 2004-07.

Bryan Dermody, hired last season as a strength and conditioning coaching assistant, will be retained by the Jets.
