Mayors Take Gun-Control Fight To Streets

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is continuing his aggressive push for changes in gun laws.

Bloomberg and other members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns are launching a national truck tour it hopes will raise awareness of what they consider to be flaws in the background check system nationwide.

The tour is called the FixGunChecks.org truck tour, and it is getting started in Times Square.

The group is planning for the truck to tour the country for two months. The truck is equipped with a "clock" that will toll the number of deaths by guns in the U.S. since the attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Ariz. on Jan. 8. Six people were killed in the attack.

The group hopes Congress every gun sold in the United States will be preceded by a background check. They also want a unified, national database of people prohibited from buying guns.

What do you think? Are current laws sufficient? Sound off in our comments section.
