Smartphones Can Now Access NYC Construction Info

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York City was using technology that can provide instant information about construction projects through a smartphone.

Quick Response Codes were used for product packaging and advertising. Local governments are starting to use them as well.

In New York City, a smartphone can now be used to read the code on construction permits.

Users can take a cell phone picture of the code, and the application lets them access online information.

The mayor and buildings commissioner planned a demonstration of the technology on Tuesday.
