Brooklyn Woman's Remains To Be Returned To Family In Texas
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- More than two years after her murder, the remains of 25-year-old Brooklyn woman will be returned to her family in Texas.
Laura Garza was last seen leaving a Marquee, a nightclub in Chelsea, with convicted sex offender Michael Mele in December 2008.
Mele, 25, is charged with murder, manslaughter and evidence tampering. He could face 25 years to life in prison if he's convicted of murder.
Garza's remains were found last April. A group of ATV riders found what police described as "an intact skeleton" in Mount Cobb, Pa., several miles outside of Scranton. Police said a watch that Garza was wearing when she disappeared was found on the remains and DNA tests confirmed the identity.
The cause of her death was not made public.
Following cremation later this week, Garza's ashes will be sent to her hometown, McAllen, Texas.
