9/11 Memorial Could Mean More Ferry Traffic In Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, NJ (WCBS 880) - Could the opening of the 9/11 memorial in Manhattan impact traffic across the river at one of New Jersey's state parks?

Lower Manhattan residents and business leaders are concerned about car traffic once the 9/11 memorial opens.

At a public hearing, one idea that came up included steering driving visitors to Liberty State Park in Jersey City, where they take the ferry over to Battery Park and then walk to the memorial.

It would be an alternative to driving into Manhattan as well as an alternative to the PATH train.

"And it'll be very convenient for people who live in New Jersey or who are traveling through New Jersey," says Sam Pesin, president of Friends of Liberty State Park.

Pesin says he likes the idea, and would be willing to talk with all connected parties about making it happen.
