NJ Pastor Accused Of Stabbing Another

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Religious leaders in northern New Jersey are shocked after a pastor was accused of stabbing another.

Authorities said the Rev. Edward Fairley stormed into a Paterson home and stabbed the Rev. Simone Shields in the face and torso while she was getting her hair done Tuesday.

Authorities said they found Fairley on the street, soaked in blood with the knife in his hand. The 59-year-old is charged with attempted murder.

Shields was in critical but stable condition.

Police told The Record newspaper the pair worked at the Koinonia and Christian Ministries that Fairley started 15 years ago.

Police also told the newspaper at some point they were in a relationship. Fairley is married and Shields is single.

It's not clear if Fairley has retained a lawyer.
