NJ Woman Turns 110; Drinks A Glass Of Whiskey A Day

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Break out the whiskey. Melva Radcliffe of Wall Township turned 110 on Thursday. New Jersey’s oldest resident said she drinks a glass of whiskey a day.

Her doctor told WCBS 880 he is in no position to tell her to stop. Dr. Mark Pass said his only advice is that she start drinking the good stuff.

WCBS 880’s Wayne Cabot talks with the 110-year-old woman’s doctor about what keeps them going

Another part of her secret is exercise. She walks every day using her walker.

Melva never had children. She traveled the world, worked as a schoolteacher, and waited until her 60s to get married. When her husband died, she married his brother.

Melva resides in an assisted living facility near the Jersey shore.

My grandfather had heart problems when he was in his 50s, and this was at a time before surgery or medications to correct the problem was even in existence. Every day, he religiously took one shot of straight rye whiskey (old Overholt 100 proof) every day. He lived to 98 and he dies of something else other than heart problems . The formulation and the distillery location of this whiskey has changed. You cannot get the same stuff today.
