Tri-State Contestants Compete In Ms. Full-Figured Pageant

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Women across the area were competing in the 21st annual Ms. Full-Figured USA Pageant in Newark on Sunday.

Pageant organizers said the show features two size categories: Size 14-20 and size 22-36. In addition, the women will compete in day wear, evening wear and lounge wear segments.

The CEO and founder of the Ms. Full Figured USA Pageant Theresa Randolph spoke with 1010 WINS on Sunday and said the competition was a way for normal people to show off their confidence.

Randolph said the event "raises self-esteem for full-figured women all over in our area" and added that it served as an avenue for them to "express themselves."

"We have so many women that may have had a baby and/or may have gotten married and/or may not look that size they did when they were in high school, but they're still gorgeous, beautiful and they've moved on with their life," Randolph said.

Randolph noted her organization did promote health, but that the reality was "people go to McDonald's" and "people don't like to diet."

The event began Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Robert Treat Hotel.
