Man Shot After Feud With Corrections Officer In Brooklyn Barber Shop

NEW YORK (CBSNewYorkAP) -- Police said a 77-year-old man was shot to death in a Brooklyn barber shop on Tuesday during a fight with his neighbor.

Off-duty corrections officer Michael Mininni was at the shop on Bath Avenue in Bensonhurst at about 1:30 p.m. when his elderly neighbor walked in. The two men got into a heated argument in the shop that led to both men brandishing guns.

The 77-year-old was shot once in the face by Mininni and died. It's not yet clear if the older man fired his gun. The officer was hospitalized at Lutheran Medical Center as the investigation continued.

One woman who lived across the street from the men said the elderly man was not friendly.

"He was always angry about a lot of things, but I didn't think that he would go do that," she told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.

The two had an ongoing fight, and investigators are looking into why.

The union representing corrections officers said that Mininni acted in self-defense. No charges have been filed.
