Queens Man Pleads Guilty To Scalding Baby With Boiling Water

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New York City man has admitted he scalded an infant with boiling water because she wouldn't stop crying.

Anthony Parra pleaded guilty to assault and endangering the welfare of a child in a Queens court on Tuesday. He faces 20 years in prison.

Parra was watching his sister's baby while she was at work in May. Prosecutors said he put the baby in the shower and ran hot water for five minutes when the baby wouldn't stop crying and refused to take a bottle.

According to court papers, the baby's skin began peeling when he scrubbed her with a sponge.

The baby suffered first- and second-degree burns to 30 percent of her body.
