Bronx Tour Bus Crash Driver Has Licenses Suspended

Sources: Man At Center Of Fatal I-95 Wreck Probe Used An Alias

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — State officials have suspended the license of the driver of the tour bus that crashed in the Bronx on Saturday, amid new questions about whether he should have even been issued a license to drive a bus in the first place.

Ophadell Williams will not be allowed to drive anything, a bus or a car, because both his commercial driver’s license and his personal license have been suspended, reports CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.

Williams remains front and center in a state investigation in what went wrong in last Saturday’s tragic and fatal bus crash.

Sources told Kramer investigators have received information that he used the alias “Erik Williams”  several times when he was stopped by cops for speeding and other driving violations.

It’s believed Williams used multiple names in order to protect his commercial license and there are questions about whether Williams should have ever been issued a license to drive a bus.

The bus he was driving from the Mohegan Sun casino skidded into a highway sign post, which sliced the top like a knife, killing 15 passengers.

And on Thursday surprise inspections were conducted across the state. Of the 36 buses looked at, 10 drivers were taken off the road and eight traffic tickets were issued.

    Bill Burns,

You should proofread whatever you type and then burn in hell. You are an ignorant ass stupid SOB!

  2. Moral Truth says:

These type people such as Mr. Ophadel Williams are always pulling scams like this of getting multiple drivers licenses and fake ids to get away with crimes.

If the bus company did a proper background check this accident would more then likely not have happened and thats the moral truth.

    1. C.J. says:

The DMV should do more extensive background checks on these people when they apply for licenses. 9 out 10 of these applicants are surely committing fraud or using an alias.

  3. Dan says:

Lock this CRIMINAL up and then outsource the DMV!

  4. WCBSGuest1977 says:

Hope this man has his licences suspended for LIFE!!!

  5. Pete says:

This is only the tip of an iceberg, as there is very much corruption in the NY Motor Vehicle Bureau. All is on sale for a good price. This man was never supposed to get any license for any kind of vehicle!! It is a sorry state that the authorities always find out afterwards. A few people will get a slap on their wrists and the 15 people killed will be forgotten in a few weeks. In the beginning, politicians and the Governor will grandstand, then everything will ebb away in the corrupt courts. There is too much insurance money involved now to remain honest, give the victims their dues, and lock up the guilty ones.
