NEW YORK (CBS 2) — There’s no shortage of great movies to see this weekend. Three hot new releases open in theaters Friday, and all three are expected to be in a tight race with the last two box office winners, Katie McGee reports.

Seth Rogen lends his voice to the title character of “Paul.” Paul’s been held captive by the U.S. Government for a few decades, and when he finally escapes, Paul meets a couple of Sci-Fi fans played by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who promise to help him get back home.

With the feds hot on their trail, it’s a race against time to get this extra-terrestrial back where he belongs.

Also in theaters is “Limitless.” Bradley Cooper stars as Eddie Morra who’s battling a serious case of writer’s block until he runs into an old friend who offers him a little help.

Eddie pops the pill and suddenly his mind knows no limits. Finishing his book in just days, Eddie then turns to the stock market where he makes a killing, and attracts the attention of a tycoon played by Oscar-winner Robert De Niro.

But how long can Eddie sustain success and the effects of the drug?

You’ll also find “The Lincoln Lawyer” in theaters.

Matthew McConaughey plays Mick, a defense attorney in L.A. whose office is the back of a town car.

When a career opportunity to defend a Beverly Hills rich kid Ryan Phillipe comes his way, Mick thinks his career is made. But things may not be as they appear, sending Mick on a mission to uncover the truth.

The film also stars Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei, William H. Macy and Josh Lucas.

Also out in limited release is “Win Win” with Paul Giamatti and Amy Ryan.
