Man Killed, 3 Other People Hurt In South NJ Crash

DEPTFORD, N.J. (AP) -- One person was killed and three others injured early Saturday when a pickup truck driven by an alleged drunk driver crashed into their vehicle in southern New Jersey.

Rene Berben of Deptford Township was charged with vehicular homicide and two counts of assault by auto.

Gloucester County authorities say Berben was northbound on Route 41 when he collided with a southbound vehicle driven by 29-year-old Steven Kennedy of Runnemede around 2:35 a.m.

Kennedy was trapped inside his car and pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers were taken to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, where they were being treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The 25-year-old Berben was also hurt and taken to the same hospital, but further details on his condition were not disclosed.
