New Garage Opens At Hicksville LIRR Station

HICKSVILLE, NY (WCBS 880) – The commute just got a little easier at Long Island’s busiest train station, thanks to a new parking garage.

WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs: No Circling Looking For A Spot

The days of having to park far away and take a shuttle bus to the Hicksville Long Island Rail Road train station are over.

A new garage with a capacity of over 1,400 vehicles opened on Monday.

It’s also equipped with energy efficient lighting and a lot of security, says garage electrician Mark Worley.

“There’s 89 cameras and this gentleman in the booth here can watch everything that’s going on and they watch it at the main headquarters in Syosset,” Worley told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. “We have a board here [that] tells you what parking is available at every level, so you’re not circling all day.”

“A lot of people have been waiting for it,” says security guard Frank Cardone.

Drivers are thrilled to have the new garage, three years after the old one was demolished for structural problems.

Many say the new $65 million facility will shave as much as twenty minutes off their commute.

The garage is for town of Oyster Bay residents only.

This parking lot is closed after midnight Friday through the weekends, unlike the one it replaced.

  • Hicksville Stains

There is a liquid that drips from the ceiling that stains cars. After the first week of the lot being open I noticed drip marks on my hood and roof. I went to the car wash on Sunday and the marks would not come off. After I noticed another car with similar markings, I approached the driver. He was talking to the manager of the car wash who said he easily had a dozen customers that day with the same stains, and it was only 10am. He said they have nothing that will remove the stains, getting the car detailed for $100+ would make it better, but still visible, the only way to fully fix it would be to repaint the car. Town of Oyster Bay can expect a bill… attached to a lawsuit if need be.

Awesome to have the garage back. The electronic board is NOT confusing, but it had not worked since Tuesday. Hopefully now the town will be able to better enforce the TOB residents only restriction. Too many people were parking in the mall lots with no permits, and no summonses were being issued.

The electronic board is confusing. It will probably take some time before the commuters understand it.
