S.I. Camp Counselor Charged With Sex Abuse Of 8-Year-Old Autistic Boy

NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) -- A Staten Island teenager has been charged with sexually abusing an 8-year-old autistic boy while working as a counselor at a summer day camp in 2008.

Francesco Zaffuto, 19, was charged Wednesday in a 104-count indictment with crimes including sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Prosecutors said the abuse happened in August 2008 at a program for special-needs children run by the Mission of the Immaculate Virgin at Mount Loretto.  Zaffuto took pictures with an iPhone that embedded the location of where the photo was taken.

Distinctive blue sneakers that Zaffuto was wearing in the photo also led detectives to his Huguenot home, where they found the shoes and what the prosecutor called "trophy photos" on his computer.

Zaffuto was arraigned Wednesday and bail was set at $750,000.
