Singer Chris Brown Apologizes For 'Good Morning America' Incident

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Now he's sorry.

Singer Chris Brown appeared on B.E.T.'s "106 & Park" Wednesday to promote his new album, and took the opportunity to apologize for his backstage outburst at "Good Morning America" Tuesday.

"I want to apologize to anybody who was startled in the office, anybody who was offended... I was disappointed in my actions," Brown said.

Brown suggested he was blindsided by the questions about Rihanna, saying the pre-arranged interview agreement he was aware of did not include his ex.

"When we actually did this event, everything was cool. We were supposed to perform. The talking points were positivity, creative. That was everything that was sent to me," Brown said.

The 22-year-old singer became upset after GMA host Robin Roberts persistently asked him about his former girlfriend, the trouble they had and whether he'd seen her since a restraining order against him was lifted last month.

"As the interview proceeded... I was thrown off by it. I felt like it was like 'They told us this so they could get us on the show to exploit me.' That's what I thought," he explained.

"I took it very, very hard," Brown said. "I kinda kept my composure throughout the interview, although you can see me upset."

Once backstage, Brown reportedly screamed, smashed a window and ripped off his shirt before storming out of the building.

"When I got back I just let off steam in the back. I didn't physically hurt anyone, I didn't try to hurt anyone, I just wanted to release just the anger that I had inside me," Brown said.

"I love to be able to make positive music and I felt like people kept just trying to take it away from me," Brown said.

"So yes, I got very emotional, and I apologize for acting like that," Brown said.

Apparently the interview didn't sit well among Brown's fans, who have taken to the internet to express themselves. The singer tried to convince them not to threaten Roberts.

"Do not send any threats, 'cause I been hearing things over Twitter," Brown said.

Brown was sentenced to five years probation and 180 days of community labor after pleading guilty to assault.

He is scheduled to perform on the elimination round of "Dancing With The Stars" next week.
