NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – A grand jury indicted a Bronx man on murder charges Tuesday in the strangulation of his wife.

Eddy Coello, a former NYPD officer, was being held without bail and declined to testify before the grand jury panel, 1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa reported.

Prosecutors said Coello made incriminating statements that led to his arrest. 1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa reports.

He was arrested last week, on the day his wife Tina Adovasio was buried. Coello will be back in court Friday to be arraigned on the charge of second-degree murder.

The 40-year-old nurse and mother of four disappeared on March 11. Her body was found five days later in the woods near the Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown Heights.

Police had visited their Throgs Neck home at least once on a domestic violence call. She was seeking to separate from Coello.

Coello left the police force in 2000 amid a domestic violence investigation involving a former wife.

He has been working as a physician’s assistant.
