Report: Luis Ayala Rounds Out Yankees’ Pitching Staff

NEW YORK (WFAN) — Luis Ayala, you’re headed to Yankee Stadium.

With left-hander Pedro Feliciano on the disabled list because of upper arm-shoulder soreness, Ayala will be the final pitcher added to the Yankees’ Opening Day staff, reports the NY Daily News.

According to the paper, Ayala “did not fly to New York with the team on Tuesday, but was headed north on a flight Wednesday morning.”

Ayala, a right-handed non-roster invitee, beat out lefty Steve Garrison for the job.

Good move by the Yanks? Let us know in the comments below…

i think the yankees made a great choice in ayala. he is a work horse and he know his game. he worked well in washington and did well with the mets as there closer for a bit. i wish the yankees all the best with the play-offs and once again great job with ayala

I would have taken my chances with Garrison. After the Tigers leave town you have the M&M boys coming to town and then all those lefty bats in Beantown. Even if Garrison is inexperienced, the fact that those teams probably don’t have a book on him yet would have helped us if Garrison needed to face one of those lefties in a tight spot. I DON’T TRUST AYALA as far as I can throw him and what do we need another righty in our pen for anyway?! That’s one move that Giradi’s “veteran’s first,” approach is going to haunt us.

Garrison is a tough lefty but Joe knows what he’s doing.
