Threatening 'Time To Kill' E-mails Sent To Many N.Y. Lawmakers
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York State Police are investigating threatening e-mails sent to a number of politicians, including Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Republican Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos.
The threats came from a man claiming to be a state worker, reports CBS 2's Marcia Kramer.
According to the state police the subject line in the e-mails said, "time to kill" and it was reportedly sent not only to Silver and Skelos, the two top ranking legislative leaders, but also to other lawmakers in Albany -- both Democrats and Republicans.
The police said the e-mails also contain a pro-anarchy rant and come just as the state has passed an on-time budget that will include the layoffs of thousands of state workers.
The e-mails also refer to Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman who was the target of a recent assassination attempt that left here seriously injured.
The e-mails were immediately sent to the state police.
The state police Computer Crimes Unit is investigating the case. Officials said they are investigating a number of possible motivations for sending the e-mails, including the possibility that it could be some sort of April fool's joke.
