FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Two people escaped serious injury when a small plane crashed in northern New Jersey on Saturday and came to rest on a rural roadway.

Franklin Township police say the crash occurred around 1 p.m. in that Somerset County community. The two people in the plane — whose names were not immediately released — were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

No one on the ground was injured in the incident. But the plane damaged some utility poles and power lines, and traffic was detoured around the area of Weston Canal and Schoolhouse roads while investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration and other agencies collected evidence.

Further details, including the type of plane involved, were not immediately disclosed.
