Centerport Woman Arrested For DWI With 5-Year-Old Son In Car
CENTERPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police say a Centerport woman has been charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing into another vehicle and then fleeing while her 5-year-old son remained in the car.
Suffolk County police arrested Jessica Lazarus, 39, at her home Monday afternoon.
They say her car struck a Toyota, which in turn hit a Jeep on Centershore Road at the intersection of Route 25A around 3:14 p.m.
The drivers of those vehicles were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Huntington Hospital. The boy was not harmed and was turned over to a family member.
Lazarus has been charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child less than 16-years-old, a felony under Leandra's Law. She was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury and endangering the welfare of a child.
