Yankees' Teixeira On WFAN: Hot April 'Very Important For Me'

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is off to a red-hot start for the first time in New York. He joined Boomer & Carton on Wednesday morning to talk about it.

"I think it was very important for me," Teixeira said. "We have obviously a very tough division and, you know, my April last year was pretty pathetic."

Teixeira smashed a 2-0 pitch into the stands on Tuesday for his fourth home run this year. It was his third three-run blast in five games.

"I expect a lot out of myself, everyone expects a lot out of me," said Teixeira. "If I'm not getting the job done, I've got to answer those (tough) questions."

He's also impressed with how Alex Rodriguez is swinging the bat. Teixiera has the highest of hopes for his teammate at the hot corner.

"It's incredible what I've seen with Alex this spring," said the first baseman. "He's been the Alex of old, where I expect him to go out and win an MVP this season."

And what about fan favorite Nick Swisher?

"You know, some of us are blessed with speed, some are blessed with power," joked Teixeira. "In Swisher's case it's good looks and a good personality."

At 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Teixeira will announce his partnership with Harlem RBI  at Yankee Stadium.

"You can donate as little as $25 and buy a brick, and that brick is going to go help build this school and this home for Harlem RBI," he said. "It's just a really cool program that we're putting together."
