On WFAN: R.A. Dickey Talks Mets' Home Opener, Mike Pelfrey

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- R.A. Dickey, the biggest surprise to come out of the Mets last season, will open up Citi Field on Friday. He talked about his mindset going into the home opener with Boomer & Carton on Thursday.

Dickey said he didn't feel nervous during his first start of the season. That may not be the case in Flushing.

"It didn't feel any different than any start last year, which is a good thing," said the knuckler. "Hopefully that'll continue. In the home opener, I think I'll probably be dealing with nerves on that one more than any of them."

Fellow pitcher Mike Pelfrey has had a rough couple starts to begin 2011. Dickey had a few words of encouragement for "Big Pelf."

"Mike and I have a pretty neat relationship," said Dickey. "I just tried to remind him that in order to really be who he wants to be as a pitcher, he's going to be self-aware enough to realize who he is, what his identity is."
