New Midtown Seafood Bar & Restaurant Serves High Seas Happy Hour

By Kimberly Rae Miller

If you can't yet afford to spend your evenings sipping cocktails on your private yacht, the bar at the new Pier 9 Restaurant in Hell's Kitchen is a close second.

The décor of this new seafood hot spot, opened in March, is regatta-esque. Boat sails line the walls, and if you order a top shelf drink, your bartender will actually climb the mast of this epic sky high bar to grab your liquor of choice.

The sea-loving theme doesn't stop there: Sommelier Alex Gonzalez has orchestrated a wine list featuring concoctions that originate in coastal areas and fishing cultures all around globe. If you're weary of pairing a red wine with fish, don't be — the drink list is well thought out and complements the primarily seafood based menu extremely well.

While the rest of the menu stays true to the restaurant's nautical theme, it's the By Land Martini ($14) that steals the limelight on this bar menu. Made with Karlssons Potato Vodka, black truffle brine, and garnished with blue cheese and truffle stuffed olives—this martini is about as rich and savory as a cocktail can get.

If you're gung ho about staying on theme, the By Sea Martini ($13) takes an oceanic twist on your classic cocktail, mixing Double Cross Vodka with seaweed brine and garnishing with an oyster.

The less adventuresome will be happy with the Dark n Stormy ($11); the bartender at Pier 9 perfectly mixes Goslings Black Seal Rum, ginger beer and lime. It's so smooth you won't realize there's alcohol in it.

Tempted to check it out? Hit up their daily happy hour between 2:30-6:30 pm to try anything on the drink menu for half price, and while you're at it couple that with a few $2 oysters. Also, you just may need an order of the Lobster "Mac n Cheese" it's magic in your mouth.
