New Britain High School Will Host Senior Citizens Prom

NEW BRITAIN, CT (WCBS 880) - Hundreds of seniors in Connecticut will be getting all gussied up Thursday night before they head to the annual senior citizens prom.

Organizer Carroll Zazit said 400 to 500 people turn out every year. This year's gala at New Britain High School is sold-out.

Zazit said attendees come well-dressed and enjoy dancing to a swing band playing old favorites. Following the fun, the seniors sit down to enjoy their dinner.

"They come with their heels and their hair done and their jewelry," Zazit said.

Each year, a prom king and queen are selected. The honor goes to the best and most enthusiastic dancers.

Local police in New Britain also make certain the parking lot is well-lit and patrolled.

"If there's any issues with their cars or lost keys or whatever, they're there to help them, assist them and if need be, drive them home," Zazit said.

Zazit said the seniors who are unable to make it to the prom can watch the event when it's aired on local Cablevision.
