Heavy Rains Soak Tri-State, Bring Flooding Concerns

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A low pressure system is moving through the Tri-State area and will bring 1.5 to 2 inches of rain, along with potential flooding.

That system is coming from the west and will start in the mid-afternoon. Saturday morning's high pressure system is expected to scoot offshore as moisture continues to build up in the area.

Clouds will continue to accumulate all day and wind will increase to gusts of 40 to 50 miles-per-hour in the Tri-State, and a Wind Advisory will be in effect for most of the area until 2 a.m. Sunday.

Flood warnings and watches have been issued for all five boroughs of New York City, as well as Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Orange, Rockland, Dutchess, Ulster and Putnam Counties in New York until early Sunday morning. Much of New Jersey is also under flood warnings and advisories until early Sunday morning. In Connecticut, Litchfield, New Haven and Fairfield were also under flood advisories.

The system won't last long, however. While the rain will carry overnight into early morning, the forecast improves as Sunday progresses, and partly sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures should take hold. Lingering showers could spring up, but won't result in a washout.

Saturday's high is expected to hit 53 degrees, and its low is expected at 41 degrees.

Those temperatures will move up into 60s during the week and reach 70 by Wednesday.
