Suspect In Stabbing Of Brooklyn Pizzeria Owner Charged With Attempted Murder

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man accused of stabbing the owner of a popular Brooklyn pizzeria has been charged with attempted murder.

Benny Geritano told the judge at his arraignment Sunday that he was defending himself. To prove it, he lifted up his shirt to reveal wounds he said were inflicted by Lucali pizzeria owner Mark Iacono.

His lawyer said Geritano suffered the first wound in the attack Friday. Geritano was held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Iacono was rushed to Lutheran Hospital with stab wounds to the face, head and back. He was charged with felony assault. Information about his lawyer was not immediately available.

GQ magazine ranked Lucali the second-best pizzeria in the country in 2009. Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles are said to make regular stops there.
