McDonald’s Looking To Hire Thousands Of New Workers

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Polish off your resume because McDonald’s is going on a hiring spree.

The fast food giant was making a well-publicized push to hire 50,000 workers Tuesday. That works out to about three or four more workers at each restaurant. The company is hiring both restaurant crew and management for full-time and part-time positions.

1010 WINS’ Mona Rivera reports on the hiring blitz.

McDonald’s usually staffs up for summer anyway. A spokeswoman said last year, McDonald’s hired 50,000 employees throughout April.

The burger chain was also eager to change the perception of the term “McJobs.” It might be a tall order for a word that even the Oxford English Dictionary defines as “an unstimulating, low-paid job with few prospects.”

McDonald’s said its jobs teach important skills and that many of its executives started as crew members.

The company, based in Oak Brook, Ill., said franchisees will set wages but most pay more than the $7.25-an-hour federal minimum.

  4. Railien7 says:

The focus on hiring only young people could be viewed as age discrimination when you consider that many quailified people out there can’t buy a job but still need to feed their families. Hiring older workers that really need a job should be the focus. Experienced people should be hired as management because our youth doesn’t seem to understand certain things baby boomers grew up learning.

This youth hiring-focus also sends a message that flipping burgers at minimum wage is a career – what a joke.

    1. Jim Prouty says:

Concur on your older, more experienced individuals, being a focus for a management position. Not so sure you understood the importance of promoting within for McDonalds. “Many of their executives started as crew members” should make the youth believe that if they excel as an Indian, then one day they can be a Chief. Flipping burgers in just the entry level job, not the career. Same theory goes in all business, even the military where Officer Corps contain a majority of those who were once enlisted.

I’d rather die than be a slave.

    1. Jim Prouty says:

You are an idiot. It is a job, not slavery. If you are referring to people who work for a living as being slaves, well you are still out in left field. I suppose death is better suiting you than being a productive member of society.

  10. Frank Rodriguez III says:

Our fears become reality. What traditionally used to be a young or teenage workers job will now compete with hundreds of thousands of older applicants with college degrees for minimum wage positions. Well, our leaders promised us jobs so I guess we can’t complain. Sad, very sad indeed.
