Chelsea Bakery Cashes In On Royal Wedding Gift Box
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — If you’re looking to cater your royal wedding viewing party with something a little bit classier than the Dunkin’ Donuts Royal Wedding Donut, look no further than this Chelsea bakery.
Eleni’s, a Chelsea market-based bakery known for their playful, nut-free confections, can’t whip up their Royal Wedding Gift Box fast enough.
The package includes the shop’s signature handmade sugar cookies: Two bearing the resemblance of Kate and William, and several additional, smaller bites baked to look like British landmarks – like Big Ben and bright red phone booths.
There’s also a cookie bearing the University of St. Andrews logo – where Prince William met his bride-to-be.
A store representative told CBSNewYork that the demand for the gift box has been greater than they could have imagined, and they’ve even received orders from across the country.
“Hundreds and hundreds of them have been distributed to stores,” said Annie Gerson, Eleni’s marketing manager. “We are sold out, but we’re baking and icing a huge batch…to be ready to ship out Tuesday.”
Eleni’s told CBSNewYork that many of their customers are planning to serve the cookies at their own royal wedding viewing parties, or even give them as wedding presents to friends and family. As a result, the store will continue to sell the goods through Memorial Day.
“They’ll still be of interest, if people are giving them away as wedding gifts,” Gerson said.
The bakery also has a location on Madison Avenue and a presence in New York City department stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Barney’s.
“While we primarily produce ‘everyday’ and seasonal and holiday-related products, we’re always looking for the next fun idea,” Gerson said. “We love to do all that we can with the cookies. It’s edible art – why not?”
