Justin Tuck: Jets’ Rex Ryan ‘Proud Of Coming Up Short’

NEW YORK (WFAN) — We’ve come to expect trash talk from Jets head coach Rex Ryan. But Justin Tuck wasn’t exactly thrilled when Ryan called out the Giants for being second to Gang Green.

“I’m gonna say this and this is gonna be the last time I comment on anything Rex Ryan says,” Tuck told the New York Post. “The last time I checked, I have a Super Bowl ring and he doesn’t, so if he’s proud of coming up short, I guess he should be proud of that.”

Ryan, though, does have a Super Bowl ring — just not with the Jets. In fact, it’s from the Baltimore Ravens’ beatdown of the Giants in Super Bowl XXXV. He was Baltimore’s defensive line coach.

“Some people like to say the Giants are the big brother team and the Jets are the little brother team,” Ryan said in his new book, “Play Like You Mean It.”

“I have news for you: We are the better team. We are the big brother.”

Ryan also said, for the next 10 years, the Jets are going to be better than the Giants.

“When people ask me what it’s like to share New York with the Giants, my response is always I am not sharing it with them – they are sharing it with me. … It seems clear that right now we are the better team and we are going to remain the better team for the next 10 years. Whether you like it or not, those are the facts and that’s what is going to happen.”

The two teams face off on Christmas Eve, December 24.

Was Tuck’s comeback any good? Sound off in the comments below…

This is THE GIANTS TOWN rex ryan is an ignorant a hole i hate that guy how can you say your gonna be the best team in ny for the next 10 years becasue it aint gonna happen the giants are on the uprising and have a great team and will prove this fat piece of garbage worng.

  • glenn

if they gave out super bowl rings to playersand coaches that talk alot of mess and cant back it up, the jets will be number 1.There coach as a big mouth for a team that cant get to the super bowl, always has an excuse Well jet fans get use to going to the playoffs and losing again

  • Mr Sam

The Jets are living on a dream of what Giant fans regard as a recent memory. When the trophy comes to NY via the Jets then they can talk. Right now they are bragging about coming close. I guess when that’s all you have, that’s all you can do. This is Giant Town and will always be Giant Town. Gangrene is just talk, that’s why you hired a mouth who can get close but not there.

  • Kellz

BLAH BLAH BLAH…..LISTEN UP FOLKS…IF YOU HAVEN’T NOTICED CUZ YOUR EITHER DUMB OR BLIND…in the PAST TWO SEASONS..the JETS have been a BETTER football team. PERIOD. Check the stats…for cryin out loud..they made the AFC championship game 2 years in a row. They didn’t win..but they were there. Where was the Giants? At home. Shutup. The past is the past…RIGHT NOW…RIGHT FREAKIN NOW…the JETS ARE A BETTER FOOTBALL TEAM. PERIOD. Put that on Sports Center, quote me and have a great day.

    • 86Giants

Stop you’re crying Kelly, no one cares about a FREAKING team that HAS NOT WON A TITLE. Well, for Jets fans any win matters because they haven’t won in 50 FREAKIN’ YEARS NOW. Must be that time of the month for Kelly.

    • EB

Actually the only team better than the Giants right now are the Packers since they are the Superbowl champions. Jets are no better than an 0-16 team since they both watched someone else hoist the trophy. And last I checked, you watched the Giants earn that Lombardi trophy very recently.
Giants will never be second class to the Jets…you have a lot of catching up to do and that means winning a few Superbowls.

  • Mr Sam

This is a Giant town. The AFL Jets won once (I was there) waaay back in 1969. Since then they have always found a way to lose. Rex talks about winning a Super Bowl but that is all he does is talk about it. I don’t wish them ill but the likes of Craig Carton and the rest of the Giant haters are just about jealousy and ring envy. Let’s see how the snake bites the gangrene this year.

  • GGGGGmen

Mikey Jetz- you said so many “Jetsy” things that we Giants fans can’t even wrap our heads around it. 1st- Your ring was in 07.. against an over the hill Pats team. You act as though ’07 wasn’t recent. And I don’t know if you remember but the Giants gave the “over-the-hill” Pats their FIRST loss of the season (the same over the hill team the DOMINATED the Jets throughout that year and won your division decisively). And of course you’re not talking about 1969 because people were still getting their milk delivered back then. 2nd- the most recent season, which is always the oe that matters… the Jets beat.. hold on capital letters… PEYTON MANNING (with is whole team). This is simply false. Everyone knows the Colts were so banged up last year they looked worse than Jenna Jamison after a rough shoot. Yes, Peyton Manning was on the field but the fact that he could even gain yards with his patchwork crew shows how great Big Brother is. 3rd- O thats right.. you guys were already out of the playoffs by what.. Week 14. This is also false as the Giants were in control of their own destiny through week 16 last year, and didn’t get eliminated until the final week of the season. Like you said good chit chat

  • Mikey Jetz

Its great how every Giants fan is talking down about the Jets and saying o they have 3 rings and we have 1. Ok so what?? Your ring was in 07.. against an over the hill Pats team. Why do you think they replaced most of their guys in the offseason?? I’m not still talking about 1969… Why are you still talking about 07 or 2010 for the Jets?? If the Colts had a full team on the field we prob wouldnt have beat them in 09.. BUTTT… the most recent season, which is always the oe that matters… the Jets beat.. hold on capital letters… PEYTON MANNING (with is whole team), TOM BRADY and super woodhead, and almost Big Ben. Yeah we lost but where were you??? O thats right.. you guys were already out of the playoffs by what.. Week 14?? Rex talks alot but we’ve gotten farther than anybody we’ve had since Namath… most importantly farther than you. Good chit chat fellas.. come back with something relative to the most recent season when you wanna rip a team that better than you.

Check your facts—Jets went to the AFC Championship in 98 and LOST so Rex is only one up. But that’s how pathetic the Jets are, 3 Conference title game appearances since 69!!! That’s it?? I’m sorry we’re not winning the SB every year for you. At least we have a RECENT title and with that comes the boosting. People are talking Patriots SB’s and rightfully so because they are recent. Why not celebrate recent success? And don’t try to make excuses for a 18-0 team we beat that year—just because your sorry Jets couldn’t do it, doesn’t make our ACCOMPLISHMENT OF A SUPER BOWL TITLE ANY LESS. And let me say this so you understand a WINNER’S MENTALITY—The Giants can miss the playoffs for the next 20 years and the Jets can play for the AFC championship for the next 20 years and lose, but that will NEVER EVER put you ahead of the GIANTS—BECAUSE YOU STILL DON’T HAVE A SUPERBOWL!!!

    • Hammer

Mikey Jetz, where is the Jets ring? other than the one won before any of us, including you, were ever born. Yet in our life time you’ve seen the Giants win 3 rings. You want to believe 2007 was a long time ago, but Mikey Jealous, 2007 was just 4 yrs ago with is most recent.

When they talk about the Jets only Super Bowl win they start with “A long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away” that how long is been and do people really remember and even care.

You brag about your team yet they got in because the Colts & the Bengals sat all their best players, that’s nothing to be proud of Mikey Jealous, they backdoor into the playoffs.

Giants earned their ’07 title, took on the best in their league in the playoffs & then beat the 18-0 Patriot, actually the Giants “D” demolished all the competitors, Romo, Farve & Brady haven’t been the same since, & that Mikey Jealous is how you win titles.

    • John

It is not the most recent season but rather the next game that matters. It is allways about the next game in the NFL.

  • Dominick Mezzapesa

Seems like Rex is a perfect fit for the Jets, Talk talk talk, and never back up anything. I can’t wait to see how the Jets get their heads handed to them by the NFC East. LOL Hey Jets, try just to win your division once, before you start saying “We are going to the Super Bowl” Keep talking Rex, it’s the only thing you ever did

  • Neil Oratz

Rex was lucky to make the playoffs in 2009. Extremely lucky. Most people would just be grateful for such good fortune and keep quiet. Not Rex.

  • Adam

Yes, Giants won the SB in 2008, a great SB in fact, becasue they beat the Patriots. The Jets play in one of the toughest Divisions and the toughest conference in the league. The Giants are getting the spanking now from Philly Eagles in every game like the Jets got from Pats. funny thing is, we figured out how to beat the Pats, while Giants will have a tough time getting by the Eagles from this day forward. The tide has turned, the Jets are a few better play calls and a few personnel changes away from forming a dynasty in the AFC. Two straight trips to the AFC Champions game means something even if you lose. What have the Giants done? collapsed in every year after their SB win, with so much talent how could they be so complacent? thats the difference between the Jets and Giants. Both are great teams and NY teams, but one is hungry (Jets) while the other is just chillin…

    • EB

Typical loser Jet mentality…standards are so low that you’re boosting about losing your conference title game—twice!! You guys have been losing for so long that you forgot what’s really important–>The Lombardi Trophy. At least the Giants can win their conference. Giants have a SB title in every decade for the past three!!! That means the 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s…No one remembers the losers, especially in conference championships. Giants have had incredibly more success over the Jets since the NFL came into play so how the hell does 2 AFC LOSSES trump that?!?

    • J

To be a dynasty you have to win – The Bills went to 4 straight superbowls and didn’t win any – The jets have not won anything yet. Two years ago they got lucky because the Colts didn’t have an need to win the last game so they made the playoff. and last year the Colts played with a MASH unit allowing the jets to move in they playoff.

All teams are hungry – not just the jets – They just have a bigger mouth.

    • Hector

You see the thing here Adam is that the question really is what have the Jets done? The Giants have won Adam, the Jets have not in 41 yrs. A team is remembered for winning titles & not finish 2nd in an AFC Championship game, twice. This just shows that the Jets were good, but both times were not good enough, and that’s what separates pretenders from champions.

To be called a champion Adam, it means you’re a proven winner and Adam, the Jets are not called champions, you called yourself called them “2 straight trips to the AFC Championship means something, even if they lose” and that’s what a pretender is called & it means. Champions win, pretenders’ loss.

    • Giantsrule!!

Ha Ha dream on buddy. The Giants will be a much better team this year. They had the Eagles beat in both games last year and chocked it away, its not like we don’t belong on the same field. Now let me ask you what the hell did the Jets do in the last 40 years except talk, talk, talk and that’s it???

    • Lou

A few call from a dynasty??? Are you freaking serious?!?! Try winning a DIVISION TITLE before you start talking dynasties.

Right now you are, at best, the younger brothers of the Browns and Eagles (went to a whole bunch of conference championships, w/o wining the whole thing-Browns never even got there, Eagles only got there once). You haven’t even reached Bills satus yet, and you’re talking dynasties.

If you want to see a dynasty, take about a 4 hour drive up I-95N to Foxborough, MA. & I’m not a Pats fan.

  • Chris

Last time I checked, the Giants have 3 Super Bowl wins under their belt. The Jets? 1. The Giants’ last SB win came in February of 2008. The Jets? January of 1969. I think that speaks volumes as to who the “big brother” of New York football teams is. Not to mention the Giants don’t have to trash talk every team that they’re going up against, just to have it blow up in their face.

    • Wilson

Funny thing is Jets fan buy all that nonsense that they’re the best in football without having to prove it by winning a Super Bowl title. The Jets have yet to win a division under Ryan, but to Jets fans making the playoffs makes them the best, by sheer luck by the way in 2010, Colts benched all their best players in week 15. Got killed by Manning 30-17 in AFC title game, so much for the best defense in the NFL

The list of the best football teams ever will have the Giants, Cowboys, 49ners, Steelers, Packers, but not the Jets. Jets fans will scream foul, it’s a conspiracy they’ll cry, Ryan said we are the best ever, we believe him, why are we not on the list? Simple answer, Jets haven’t won anything, they’re just not that good.
