Westchester Woman, 85, Charged With Leaving Fatal Accident

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — An 85-year-old Westchester County woman has been indicted on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

The district attorney says Bridget Gambone, of Bronxville, was arraigned Friday.

A 59-year-old Yonkers teacher, Sheryl Chasin, was killed as she crossed a Bronxville street on her way to a Christmas party.

If convicted, the defendant could face a prison sentence of up to seven years.

She was released on her own recognizance and is due back in court on May 10.

Defense attorney Devereaux Cannick says it was “just a tragic accident” and said that his client had a medical condition.

It is good that CBS censors opinions, I guess.

This fossil should not have been driving, since, as her lawyer claims, she has a condition. People with conditions are responsible to act within the limits of their condition. Drunks aren’t in condition to drive, so they aren’t allowed to.

Mandatory recertification for any driver over 50 should be the law. From 50-60, every 5 years, from 60-75 every 2 years, and over 75 every year. Not eye exams, but proof that you can safely operate a vehicle, either by simulated driving tests or road tests. Driving is a privilege that must not be treated as a right. There are way too many incompetent drivers on the roads of all ages, but it is a fact that the older we get, the less we can handle driving.

Her defense will be that it wasn’t an “accident” but a DELIBERATE.

Senior citizen + automobile = death machine on wheels

Yup … let these elderly drivers keep the licenses so they can continue to mow down innocent people. This woman MUST serve time – hard time – as in general population in a maximum security hell hole prison! She MUST be made an example of. And seven years is a joke – she should be facing something closer to 20 years. Many of the senior citizens are more dangerous drivers than someone who is double-drunk!!!
