Victims Of School Bus, Car Crash In Lakewood Still Critical

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police were investigating whether a driver from Switzerland ran a stop sign and slammed into a school bus, causing the bus to roll on its side in Lakewood.

A 22-year-old passenger in the car and a 16-year-old girl who was either riding a bicycle or was standing with the bike are in critical condition.

The overturned bus pinned the girl by her leg.

There were no students on the bus.

Patrolman David Silberstein told the Asbury Park Press the bus driver and the driver of the car, 22-year-old Simon Benedict of Zurich, Switzerland, sustained minor injuries in Monday night's crash.

Silberstein said Benedict was driving in the United States for the first time. The officer says he had a stop sign and the bus did not.
