NYC To Governor: Where Are You, Andrew?

Cuomo Enjoying Skyrocketing Approval In City He Rarely Sees

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Where is he?

In a city filled with politicians who are not shy with being in the spotlight, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been, well, missing in action.

And as CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer reports, his absence might be making voters’ hearts grow fonder.

There was a rare New York City sighting of Gov. Cuomo at ground zero last week, just as city voters were beginning to wonder if he has been genetically altered, his DNA missing the “shine the spotlight on me” gene that makes politicians like Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Sen. Chuck Schumer crave center stage.

“He may crave it but he resists the urge,” Baruch College political science professor Douglas Muzzio said.

Muzzio said Cuomo’s “nose to the grindstone,” stay-in-Albany-and-work strategy is a smart one.

“He inoculates himself against gaff-it is. I mean politicians — Mike Bloomberg for example — has a bad case of gaff-itis. You don’t make mistakes if you’re not publicly saying stuff,” Muzzio said.

And although one might be tempted to put the governor’s face on a milk carton saying “have you seen this man?” it’s a strategy that’s working for him. He’s probably the most popular governor in the country, with 72 percent of New Yorkers saying he’s a good leader.

When asked if he likes the governor, Jonathan Dobin of Bushwick said, “I don’t know him, but I assume I like him. I mean, the city still runs.”

Dobin was then reminded that Cuomo runs the state – not the city, and he responded by saying, “Yeah, I don’t have an opinion. I guess I don’t see him enough.”

Then there was Dan Robinson of Boerum Hill, who when asked if he’s seen or even heard of the governor in town, said, “I can’t say I have actually in quite a while.” But then Robinson said when asked if the governor’s not being around impacts his reputation as a leader, “I do think he’s doing a good job.”

Cuomo does come to New York City. It’s just that sometimes it’s a stealth visit with no publicity.

Kramer saw the governor’s Midtown office on Wednesday and he is expected to be in it on Friday, but unless you’re a member of the building staff you may never get to see him.

The governor does communicate with voters via videos on his website. On Wednesday he put one out demanding the Legislature pass ethics reform.

What’s your opinion of Gov. Cuomo? Do you think he should show up in NYC more? Please offer your thoughts in the comments section below.

Maybe our Governor is hiding from the press as he
was investigation Steven Napolitano & his wife of First American Title Insurance Co
when Coumo was AG then later he got campaign donations from
Napolitano so far only the biased NY Post had this story .
Napolitano resigned in February from some allegations of hanky panky with
banks and inflated bank appraisals. ah shucks who is looking at this really
like this report says he has 72 percent roughly approval hanky panky is
boring to investigate and campaign finances.

Hey! Don’t mess with Mario’s kid. We are going to be fine, the kid has brains and comes from a good family. I sleep better knowing Andrew is our Governor.

  3. bill burns says:

The governor looks like a lunatic. Does anybody know if he really is?

  4. R. Wright says:

stop the polution of cell phone users on buses and subways….make it illegal as the lack of respect and consideration for others makes public transportation in New York unbearable…..

  5. Skipper says:

Rather than travel around the state showing his face I prefer Como stay in Albany and try to correct some of the Vampire State’s financial problems as they have been sucking the life blood out of the taxpayers for too long.

  6. B. Agostino says:

Lets face it Emperor Bloomy was elected because the
Democratic parties Mayoral candidate had the presence
and persona and style of a Funeral Undertaker.

Andy C. makes me think of someone that snores a lot
when falling asleep on the living room couch like my Uncle

When you can’t spell and only throw racial firebombs, your opinion doesn’t count for anything. So spare everyone the rantings of a person with the intelligence of an 8 year old and go back to your lonely world of obscurity.

  8. Benjy Bronk says:

Maybe he’s too busy figuring out how to fix the mess left by our last three Governors instead of being concerned about having his ego stroked by the media like Schmuck Schumer. He should be applauded.

  9. Dale Auburn says:

    Who writes the headlines here?

Anybody who has ever studied Shakespeare knows that “wherefore” DOES NOT mean “where” – it means “why.” The headline is literally asking Cuomo why he is “Andrew” and not somebody else.

(In the famous Romeo and Juliet context, Juliet rhetorically asks why Romeo has to be a Montague, rather than a member of some other family that wasn’t feuding with her own.)

  10. Hjack says:

Cuomo is a piece of garbage and knows the only support he has comes from his pay masters. And are we the tax payers paying the way for his ugly “beard” so she can teach poor people to cook while Andy makes them starve?

And 72% think a MIA gov is “good leader” BS! What poll? By the corrupt lieing Quinnipiac? GARBAGE GARBAGE GARBAGE!

  11. SickofBloomberg says:

Just goes to show you how stupid city residents are. They reelected Gloomberg the Troll and they approve of a governor they know almost nothing about. Pathetic.

  12. Seema says:

    Thank you!
